Research Canada: An Alliance for Health Discovery

On June 13th, 2018 I was honoured to attend the 2018 Annual General Meeting of Research Canada on the behalf of Dr. K.W. Michael Siu, Vice-President of Research and Innovation and the University of Windsor.

Various aspects of promoting Canada’s global leadership in health research were discussed. One message that I perceived as an evident message, was the need to ensure that research knowledge reaches the community and politicians. From an academic perspective, it is viewed as imperative to ensure that our research is published in high quality journals. However, that does not ensure that individuals within the community, nor individuals who may be the target benefiting population of the research, are receiving the information in a format that is most suited to their aptitude. Thus, potential avenues of enhancing the reach through a broader dissemination of research were discussed.

As part of the day I attended the Parliamentary Health Research Caucus Luncheon on Innovations in Healthy Aging and panel presentations on What’s Next in Health Research Advocacy and Meeting the Advocacy Challenge for Health Innovation Ecosystem.
