Arrangement (Teaching Development)

It is a fundamental element of my teaching philosophy to create projects that will aid students in the development of an emotional link with or empathy for the populations they are studying. It is also essential for me that the students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned through various applied assignments. Inclusive here are a few examples of how I strive to achieve this goal:

  • Simulation Labs
  • Community Involvement
  • Family Involvement
  • Collaborative Projects

“Professor van Wyk’s methods made the classroom a fun learning environment that enhanced the learning experience by increasing student’s interest and vigilance in the material. Through these classes I have learned leadership, how to work effectively in a group, and time management. These are the skills Professor van Wyk focuses on, which gives her students an edge when they enter the workforce by being able to perform under stress, with groups, and in dynamic situations. Professor van Wyk’s students are well-rounded, professional, and ready to contribute to society as a whole.” ~ Chad Bezaire

I should be willing to do anything I ask the students to do, here I am hooked up to portable EMG instrumentation to first demonstrate a task to the students.
