Technology Isn’t as Scary as it Seems!

This post will explore the Technologist Module on the E-Campus Ontario website. This module is for educators to learn how to integrate technology into their classrooms in a way that enriches learning experiences for students. The module is divided into several sub section, and the overall goal of the module is a walk through of how to take a design-thinking approach in your classroom with the help of technology. The design thinking approach has 5 sections and each of these sections is a different tab in the module. Each tab has a technical explanation of the step/approach and also includes an “extend activity” that is an example of how the achieve this step in the design process.

I found this module very useful. As someone who has always found incorporating technology in the classroom very taunting, this module is definitely something I will use when it comes time for me to use technology in my next practicum. The extend activities provided hands on examples of how to apply what is being explained at the beginning of each section to give teachers a starting point if they are overwhelmed when it comes to incorporating tech into the classroom. I found the technology integration process that is suggested in this module is very realistic and could easily be adapted to any subject area. I do believe that technology integration is an important aspect of todays education because times are changing and technology is becoming such an important tool.

Technology Isn’t So Scary After All

For my second Multimedia reflection I decided to respond to Michele Jacobson’s Article, Teaching in a Participatory Digital World . In this article, the author gives an in depth analysis on how the evolution of technology is affecting the education system and how teachers play an important role in providing students with the tools they require to succeed in this new digital world.

I decided to attempt a twitter essay for my response after participating in our class discussion on twitter last week. I decided this because of how the combination of that twitter discussion and reading this article has really changed my view on participatory learning and this new digital education that is increasingly popular. At the beginning of this class I was not comfortable with the thought of sharing my social networking platforms with my peers, and I was terrified of the thought of using these social platforms in a professional way. This was mainly because I wasn’t quite sure how to go about it, however we are now two months into this class ad I have made a tremendous amount of progress when it comes to stepping out of my comfort zone, and attempting things in the digital world that I would have never imagined I’d be capable of. This twitter essay really forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and try something new.

Enjoy.

Digital Ghost’s in the Modern Classroom and How to Get Rid of Them.

This post will provide a detailed response to the article Digital Ghost in the Modern Classroom by Ashley Hinck. I have decided to share my response in the form of an info graphic using Piktochart. Please follow the link below to check out my response to the article, as well as a short summary of the main ideas Hinck focuses on in her article.

While completing this multimedia response, I felt like I was directly going against what Hinck talks about in her article because of the fact that I used a template to create my Piktochart. However, this experience enforced the part of my reflection that mentions the importance of starting students off with template based websites when they are learning to create because if I was forced to create a multimedia response without being able to use Piktochart or another template/shortcut based website I would have been ten times more anxious going into it then I was.
