Assignment 3
For my fourth assignment, I was inspired by the Morning Flight statue down by the riverside. I used paper to fold a bunch of paper cranes and stacked them together as if they were flying upwards. There is a legend that if one makes 1000 cranes, they will be granted a wish. The purpose of placing the cranes at the lottery booth was to “grant” them a wish and “increase” the chances for them to win! I’m so nice 😀

Frank Shepard Fairey
Frank Shepard Fairey is a graffiti artist who had his work showcased in both museums and on the streets. I think his artwork is very realistic and somewhat inspirational because they mostly feature a person with a message on it. His work reminds me of advertisements that tries to sway people to think his way. It seems like he is very fond with using red and black, perhaps because those 2 colors are very bold and he would like his work to be seen.
Here are a few examples of his work:
Process for Assignment 1
First Assignment
This is the first assignment in my image class. We had to find an unwanted painting and alter it to our liking. In the beginning, my painting was very pastel, light and innocent. I found this to be very boring so I decided to play around with it. I scanned the original painting onto my computer and tampered with the lighting. I made the scenery a lot dark and added a red tinge to the atmosphere to make it look creepy. Then I drew a bunch of hands and made them stretch out from the compressed windows and chimney. I also added a very dark and bloodied figure behind the fence. Lastly, I burned the edges to make it look like it was a photo that was recovered from a fire accident. The end product was definitely a lot more interesting for me to look at.
An Interesting Graffiti Art
Had a nice walk downtown with my class and I found this interesting looking graffiti art. I really loved how the word had a comical illustrated story in the background instead of having solid colors. The characters looked very animated and has dimension. I also thought the colors fit really well with the brick wall.
The Stop Sign
A common stop sign can be found anywhere and it gave me inspiration to my second assignment. I really enjoy the color combination, red and white. I really love the red background and the white details of the stop sign. In my second assignment, I made the background red and the branches, leaves and birds white.
A Found Painting
This painting was found while I was walking around school campus. It caught my attention because I liked how the painting looked like it was overlapping and I like how the pieces were placed in a stranger manner. This painting inspired me to use tissue paper and overlap them in my second assignment.
