Number Line Math Talk

During my first placement in a grade 6/7 class, our first subject of the day was math. One morning I had a number line on the board, a little sheet of paper with either a fraction, image, decimal number or percentage on it on each student’s desk with a piece of tape. While students were walking in and settling in for the day, they realized what the task was without any instructions and each placed their paper on the board. As a class, we reviewed each number/percentage/image placed on the board to ensure each placement was correct. This was an interactive way to make a number talk fun in the classroom and have students remember a concept prior to beginning a unit on it.
