Catholic Education

As a member of the Catholic faith, I find it important to continue to evolve in my career through my faith. In my second placement, I had the opportunity to expand my knowledge about Catholic education. During a pandemic, I found an interesting way to build a sense of community in our classroom during religion class. In the grade 5 religion course, we discussed families and relationships. Students participated in an activity where each student wrote down a family tradition, a family rule and one way their family shows them love on 3 separate post-it notes. Once the students had time to reflect and write their personal statements down, all the answers were collected and posted on the board. This led to a thoughtful discussion about families can be alike in some ways, but so different in other ways. We discussed similarities and differences we noticed in families but students came to the conclusion that no matter the answers, all students felt loved by their families. This was a great class activity to have students bond and create that sense of community in our classroom.
