When I was growing up assessment meant pure terror with a side of nausea and anxiety. I tried to fake being sick on test days more times then I can count. This is not how I want my students to feel when they know they have an assessment that day. So, how do I accomplish that? Well, I involve them in education. In my last practicum at Central Public School when I was approaching the summative assessment section of my Pythagorean Theorem Unit I asked my students how they wanted to prepare for their assessment. I presented them with three options;
A Scoot Review
A traditional paper review
Or a Kahoot
They choose a Scoot Review. Through getting my students’ input on how they want to prepare and what I know they need to practice through my formative assessments I am constantly changing the way I assess because no two students learn or test the same.
