This placement was at Brock in a kindergarten room. The room had about 24 students. I was given the opportunity to teach both language and also a bit of social studies towards the end of my placement. To start off this placement I taught the first circle of the day, which was language. We began our phonic unit. Each week we focused on two letters. In order to maintain the student’s attention I used a lot of interactive activities and videos. For example, every day we use ToyTheatre to count how many students are at school today. I also used jolly phonics songs to assist the students in their understanding of the sounds of the letters. I also completed Heggrity every day with the students. One activity i set up for when the students first entered was a letter matching with the alphabet.
During the last week of my placement, we discussed holidays around the world. Each day we discussed a different holiday and completed activities related to that holiday. For example, when discussing Hanuakkah we played dreidel. At the end of the week, the students drew a picture of their favourite holiday.
