For my final placement, I was placed in a grade 4/5 class. This class was spilt in half evenly, thirteen grade fours and thirteen grade fives. Throughout the placement, I taught Math, Art, Social Studies and Physical Education. This was the first time being in a spilt class for placement, therefore I had a lot to learn. When teaching math I covered several units including the Metric System, Angles and Geometric Reasoning. When teaching I taught the entire class the grade four expectation. I would then provide the grade fours with some independent learning while I continued to work with the grade fives. I also provided the students with all their assessments for the units. Below is an example of a grade four assessment for angles and a grade five assessment for angles.
When teaching Social Studies, I worked only with the grade fours. We focused on the Political and Physical Regions of Canada. I began by discussing provinces and territories. We had to spend some time on this topic, as many did not know most if of the provinces. After this, we began to discuss the physical regions of Canada. The students then completed an assignment in partners. They were to create posters of a physical region and complete the required research. Below is an example of one poster created.
