Historic Firenze is the place I chose for my sense of place. I chose Firenze because I was only there for a few days, so my sense of place was really a first impression so I thought it would be interesting to explore my first impression of a place rather than do somewhere I am very familiar with. The first group of photots is just a general feel i got while in Firenze. Overwhelming cathedrals all over (and when i say overwhelming they were giant beautifully detailed buildings that took up entire huge piazza’s). The city is so rich in art, you can not only find renaissance art there in all the museums but contemporary too whether through the street vendors or mixed in with the renaissance in museums, or any other kind of building you go into. Another big thing in Firenze ( though this is really big in venice as well ) Is all the masks for Carnival. I didnt know carnival was a big thing in italy – when i think of carnival i think of quebec and New Orleans so that was something cool about Firenze as well. Masks were in every store and vendor booth, filling the windows and walls. The masks are all so beautiful.
Art was a part of everything in Firenze. There were beautiful sculptures in even places like tourist info building, and the disney store made their characters into famous renaissance paintings. The whole city still lives off of the Renaissance, promoting the art everywhere – even street artists recreating the art.
Because art is everywhere in Firenze naturally people interact with it everywhere. Art is in the buildings, on the streets, trying to be sold to you, street artists trying to impress you to earn some money,
