I thought that this was a good post to make because it give a good insight to the way we have been experiencing Italian culture and people. One night after Liz and I had ran out of food we decided to go to a restaurant. Turned out to be a great time even though it normally is a good time this time was more memorable then most.
Liz an I had sat down and already started on our first glass of wine, when a table over from us another older gentle man and his middle aged friend sat. Liz and I thought nothing of it because in Canadian culture you would mind your own business and enjoy your own meal. however as our glasses got down to empty the older gentle man insisted on giving us wine and talking to us in Italian. It did not take him long to realize that we were not from Volterra and that he had t speak slower. Our food came and we ate and drank the wine the old man had given us and continued to talk to the men. There was a couple seated behind us that was ending there meal and again not paying attention to anyone else. The older gentle man got up and poured wine in the couples glasses and made the party a little bigger. It did not mater how much we wanted to turn down the man for wine he just kept pouring and making everyone talk. He ordered more food and made everyone try everything he had. Liz and I stayed hours later then we expected for our unexpected outing. This is what Italian people are like when they go out. They go out to talk to people, to meet new people. I love it compared to being shut off from the world like we are when we go out in Canada for dinner.
