In my first practicum, I assisted my teacher associate and taught dance to primary students. Dance has various beneficial aspects that guide students learning. It builds a strong foundation in increase of self-esteem, expression of self, and physical activity. Dance is a form of expression and communication in my Ukrainian culture. Providing a space for young students to express themselves is a crucial component in allowing students voices to be heard through their diverse backgrounds. As well, dance gives students the opportunity to express themselves creatively and be visibly seen in their learning process. When students can reflect and share through collaboration, it promotes inclusivity and diversity amongst students cultures. I will incorporating and teaching dance elements in a cross-curriculum approach. The nature of my classroom will foster a culture sensitive and inclusive environment which positively impacts students’ interactions with their peers.
