Cardboard Construction

Create a cardboard sculpture that is as tall as you.
Easy enough right? NOPE. Not at all.
This was the most time consuming and stressful projects of all time.
Collecting the cardboard was easy. I work at McDonalds; so all I had to do was go there and take all the fry boxes. Constructing it was another thing.

My initial thought was to build a hockey stick out of cardboard. You know, honour the whole “Go Team Canada” thing? It would be perfect; it’s as tall as me, but small enough to not take too long! Boy was I wrong. It took me a good 8 hours to make that hockey stick. It turned out absolutely fabulous. Then, before I got the chance to take a picture, my little brother decided it would be a good idea to see if the stick could stand a slap shot. Well, it didn’t, and that’s the end of that.

My next thought was to make a coat rack. I had one in my basement that I knew would be perfect for this project. IMG_3484 That’s it. Simple, but still had enough detail to make it more then a boring one pole coat rack. I spent about 6 hours just making the four tall standing pieces for this dang thing. And while doing so, I sliced my thumb with the xacto knife. The rest of the parts didn’t take as long as those four, but with the little band-aid break, and a few snack breaks, this coat rack took me about 9 hours to build.

After all the blood (literally), sweat and tears that were put into this sculpture, the final product wasn’t nearly as good as I’d hoped. I was proud of it, but my edges could have been cleaner. Sculpting is an art that takes more patience and concentration then I think I will ever have. But I do enjoy it, and I know things will get better with time.
