” The Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession provide a framework of principles that describes the knowledge, skills, and values inherent in Ontario’s teaching profession. These standards articulate the goals and aspirations of the profession. These standards convey a collective vision of professionalism that guides the daily practices of members of the Ontario College of Teachers. ” (The Ontario College of Teachers, 2020)
My duty as an Ontario teacher is to exhibit the five Standards of Practice with intention each day inside and outside the classroom. The Standards of Practice are: Commitment to Students and Student’s Learning, Leadership in Learning Communities, Ongoing Professional Learning, Professional Knowledge, and Professional Practice. I strongly believe that through creativity, collaboration, community, and critical thinking in our classroom, we can achieve greatness. That is what being an effective teacher means to me. Personally I prefer to not even have box to think outside of… However, my inclination to organized chaos, has me creating easily followed outlines, that allow student, parents and people in general to follow along. Yet, leaving plenty of wiggle room for collaboration or creativity.
