Mental health is not so much of a taboo topic anymore. Which is excellent! As so many people suffer from poor mental health 🙁 . Becoming aware of mental health and mental illness is beneficial for every single person.
Although it is not easy to deal with mental illness, it is important to remember that you are not alone. There are many organizations or loved ones who are much closer than you may think. Taking time for self-care and doing daily check ins with yourself are a great way to become more self-aware. Self- awareness is a topic that I hold to the highest of importance. If I was to learn only one thing in life, it would be to become self-aware.
Mental health and self-care are of the utmost importance to me, as a human and as a teacher. In my classroom, students will be given tips on coping mechanisms that can be used later in life. When I was a child in school, I was not taught coping mechanisms, and when life threw me some curveballs I had to start from scratch on how to deal and cope. I hope that through my nurturing teaching approach, students will feel well equipped to deal with life’s curveballs. You can never really be too prepared… as long as you surround that preparation with an air of open minded adaptability.
Mindfulness, self-awareness and self-love all go hand- in-hand. A body that is understood, is a happy body. Most of the time. I plan to incorporate yoga or an awareness activity into my classroom as a daily practice of awareness.
Still a little scared to tackle self-awareness? That’s good. Don’t be afraid of what you don’t know because it’s unknown, be afraid that you don’t have that knowledge yet. Diving into your mind should excite you.
If you are still a little unsure when it comes to helping someone with poor mental health or a mental illness, check out the picture below. REMEMBER though, everyone is unique and these may not work for everyone. The best thing to do is to ask the person you want to help; “what can I do to help you?”
