Mental Health

Mental health is the health of your mind. Much like how you keep up on your hygiene, you need to keep up on your mental hygiene. So many factors can fog it up and make it think muddier. Some mental illnesses are seasonal (seasonal depression in the winter), some are temporary (depression after the death of a loved one), some are stuck with us (schizophrenia). There are medications prescribed, holistic alternatives offered and self-care encouraged for all mental illnesses. All are important. All are valid. All make us unique. They are a part of us, even if only for a little while. So we need to remember to always be kind to ourselves and understand as much about ourselves as possible. A Delphi Maxim socrates is often coined for saying is “know thyself”. We need to do just that.

Check out this Indigenous Medicine Wheel. Mental health is important in all cultures, and the most important thing you can do to help yourself maintain a grounded healthy mindset, is to do self- checkins. How’s your mind today? How’s your body today? How are you feeling emotionally today? How does your spirit/soul feel today? This is just one rendition of this beautifully sacred wheel to self-love and balance.
