An example rubric for assessment “of” learning from my virtual online placement with a grade one class, in April 2021.
The most efficient type of assessment, is self- assessment. This could be done with different animals, colours (red light, green light, yellow light), etc. The point is to have the students assess themselves on what they know, what they learned and what they need to know.
What does “of learning” mean? This is when teachers evaluate how a student faired in a unit. This can be an assessment tool which brings to light topics that need to be addressed again, and perhaps adapted to better meet the needs of the student(s).
What does “as learning” mean? This is when students are assessing their own learning. The Shape Reflection Tool is an example of this.
What does “for learning” mean? This is when teachers assess how well they are teaching the material to students. The receptivity of their teaching to students.
