There are many forms of assessment diagnostic, formative, and summative that help students learn the content being taught within the class. These assessments help to further student learning and covers a wide range of multiple intelligence and learning styles. This way all types of learners can benefit and group learning can take place.
Group Persuasive Paragraphs

These were the results of the group persuasive paragraphs that the grade 7s from my second practicum at St. Christopher’s created. This was a formative assessment for learning to get them practice writing persuasive paragraphs and learn how to convey their ideas better from their peers. This was a follow up to the class persuasive paragraph we did together. Here they took the counter argument on the issue. We then went over them all together as a class to look for things such as creative title, hook, claim, persuasive techniques/phrases, conclusion and plan to action. Students then gave constructive feedback on their peers paragraphs to what they could do to make their persuasive paragraphs more effective.
Body Positivity Assignment

During my placement, the Grade 8’s completed this assignment during class. This was used as a more summative assessment of learning. After learning, completing activities, and discussions about body positivity, students were tasked with choosing from the options listed to further show their understanding of body positivity. Providing options gave students move incentive to complete it. Some drew, some wrote the letter, but it still showed the same learning overall. This assignment showed a clear success criteria and rubric for completing the assignment which kept expectations known.

During my placement, the Grade 8’s completed this handout as a formative assessment for learning with a small as learning section. They were required to self-reflect on their learning but I also provided them with feedback to further their understanding or build off of their ideas.
Investigating and Classifying Matter Lab

The Grade 7’s were required to complete a lab with unknown matters. Using their prior knowledge of the lessons on matter they were to determine what each substance was without actually knowing. They saw what could be mixed with what to make a substance or if it was a pure substance or mixture. The students enjoyed this hands-on experiment and were eager to complete more labs. This allowed for other learners that do not do well on written tests to have an assessment of learning that reflected their knowledge to a greater aspect.
