The broom is the most commonly misunderstood symbol of Wiccans and it is unclear how witched got the stigmatism of flying around on a broom. The broom is sacred to both the god and goddess and is used to purify the ritual space before creating the circle. When the broom is used for the sweeping chant, the bristles of the broom do not actually touch the ground, it is sweeping away the negative energy. During the ritual service, the broom is kept at the front door to guard against negativity or unwanted energy. The broom is not used for everyday household cleaning as this can contaminate the sacred energy it holds. Other uses for the broom is to keep it under your pillow to bring pleasant dreams and guard the sleeper, kept at the front door of your home to halt any spells sent the house or those who live in it.
