PERSONAL LIFE – I am currently 18 years old and am a first year nursing student at the University of Windsor. I am a member of the University of Windsor Soccer team and completed my first season this year. I am still trying to find a healthy balance between soccer life and school life. First semester was challenging but I managed to make it through. In my free time I enjoy hanging out with my friends, walking and baking.
FAMILY LIFE – I come from a family of 5, I am the youngest of my 2 siblings. My siblings and I are only a year apart so we are very close and enjoy spending time together. My family is very active and always are looking for adventurous things to do together.
NURSING LIFE – I am really enjoying first semester as a nurse. The clinical experience has proved to me my love for this career. I am inspired to care for my patients and I want to keep learning so that I can have more of an impact on their lives. I am currently on floor 4 at Ouellette and I am loving it. Interacting with patients and being able to help them has motivated me in my studies and in everyday life. I have also entered this program with many of my friends which has made the whole experience more memorable. As I right now I am interested in the field of oncology and hope I will be able to eventually work in that unit.
Philosophy of Nursing
Nursing philosophy includes the beliefs, values, and principles that guide the practice of nursing. It focuses on promoting the health and wellbeing of patients and their communities while considering a holistic approach. As nurses, it is important to treat each person with respect, compassion, and cultural sensitivity. In order to do this, nurses must undergo constant self reflection to understand their own beliefs and values and provide care in a nonjudgmental manner. Treating all patients with dignity and respect is a philosophy that I highly believe in and always try to implement in the clinical setting. Also, nurses must prioritize evidence-based practice, continuous learning, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals. Even after graduating nursing school, nurses are required to stay up to date and knowledgeable in order to provide the best care to their patients. Ultimately, nursing philosophy serves as a framework for all nurses, guiding their actions, decisions, and relationships. As a student, I am learning about nursing philosophy and am implementing these standards and principles to guide my practice in the clinical setting.
