Things I think are worth knowing…
I am the oldest of four children. I grew up in Cottam, which most people mistake for Comber (Ontario), and detasseled corn for six summers. That’s when you walk through corn fields and pull the flowering top of alternating rows of corn to allow for cross-pollination. It’s the first job for a lot of kids growing up in the county, and it’s where I started to learn the value of hard work. My biggest cheerleaders are my loving grandparents who played a huge role in my upbringing and continue to be there through all of life’s challenges. I am an aunt to my beautiful niece and nephew, and find that hanging around children allows me to let loose in a way I rarely did during my own childhood. That’s not to say I didn’t have fun, but I was in a hurry to grow up – ignorant to what that really meant.
I’ve also completed the Wen-Do women’s self-defense program twice – an empowering experience that I recommend for anyone who identifies or presents as a woman.
My hobbies include softball, volleyball, bike riding, and various forms of art. My dad is an artist by trade, now making a living as an artist in Prince Edward Island. I undoubtedly inherited some talent, which was reawakened during the pandemic when I discovered coloured pencil as my new favourite medium. I also paint, draw, and practice photography with experience in family, wedding, set, and event photography (my personal favourite). My inclination toward artistic creativity lends itself well to the creative and aesthetic aspects of my job, and continues to feed my soul whether I am drawing on the couch, working on a commission, or designing visual material for educational resources.
