Teaching students about chemical reactions with a hands on activity. In grade 5 science students were learning about chemical reactions and mixing solids, liquids, and gases. The grade 5’s baked cupcakes and got to mix the ingredients. Throughout this experiment I asked students “We just added flour and sugar, are you able to take the sugar out of the mixture?”. This artifact was very successful in the classroom and gave students a visual for the material currently being taught.
Artifact #2:
This art activity was done for Easter. Students got their hands painted and had to cut them out and glue them on their chicken. Students were reminded to see the size of their hand and the size of their chicken and use perspective of how big to make their chicken. This activity allowed students creativity to add accessories or change the existing components to what the students liked.
Artifact #3:
Each day students have DPA (Daily Physical Activity). Students were asked to create their own dance using moves they have seen before. The dance must have moves that use all body parts. This activity helped students to use their body parts in different ways. It helped them to use different movements as well.
Artifact #4:
Teaching students about different types of poems. Learning about sensory poems can combine two lessons into one. Integrated into this lesson was a lesson about the 5 senses and how students can use those descriptive words into a poem.
Artifact #5:
Students used mirrors and a laser pen to try to reflect light onto each mirror. This activity helped students be able to see that light can bounce off objects and go in another direction. This artifact was very successful in the classroom and students were able to move the mirrors around and see the light move in different ways.
