As a part of the Art Gallery of Windsor’s “Border Cultures exhibit: Part I”, Metis Michigan-based artist Dylan Miner discusses his practice and the meaning behind his work.
With the collaboration of organizations and groups on both sides of the border in Windsor and Detroit, Dylan Miner’s work engages youth and focuses on aboriginal issues bridging generational and cultural barriers.
Evoking traditional art-making practices in the contemporary context gives substance and meaning to his work by carrying on a legacy of indeginous art and resourcefulness all while teaching youth history, culture and skills to help them in the modern world.
Dylan Miner worked similarly with youth in Detroit at El Garage Cultural, a community resource centre for aboriginal, chicano and other cultural groups.
Watch this video interview with Dylan Miner, the weekend he worked on building a tricycle as a mobile print-making vehicle with youth in Windsor at the Turtle Island Educational Centre at the University of Windsor.
